In 2001 I visited Amboseli National Park, in the shadow of majestic Kilimanjaro, with landscapes varying from dry, barren plains to lush green wetlands around Lake Amboseli. Game viewing was good and the birdlife profuse.

Tunisia

Tunisia is a well known holiday location but off the tourist trail is a wide variety of scenery - from deserts and salt pans in the south, abutting the Sahara, to lush green rolling hills and forests in the north with many Roman ruins. A circular tour in 2002 allowed me to visit much of this varied and interesting country.

After visiting Kenya in 2001 I continued on to Tanzania and the Serengeti was one of four Game Parks I visited there. Just across the border from the Masai Mara and with a land area bigger than Wales it is home to countless animals and birds; a short visit cannot do justice to the photographic potential.

The Ngorongo is like the lost world, set in the crater of an extinct volcano and surrounded by mountains several thousands of feet high. With an area of 600 sq k. and limited access, it has a huge variety of game to see and photograph.

I continued my 2001 safari with visits to these two National Parks which are adjacent and linked by the alkaline lake. They have a large population of elephants and also tree lions ( which unfortunately we did not see ).

The Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta system in the world with an area of 15,000 sq. km., filled with water channels, lagoons, swamps and islands. It is a wetland paradise located deep within the Kalahari Desert.

With a width and height almost twice that of Niagara Falls and a maximum flow of 10 million litres/second, the Victoria Falls are an amazing sight. Here the Zambezi river plunges into an abyss and makes its way east through a series of zig-zag deep gorges.

To the north east of the Okavango Delta is Chobe N.P.,with the northern boundary formed by the Chobe River and the Caprivi Strip, yet another different environment for game viewing.

Known as the Great White Place because of its 2000 sq. miles of white clay pan that covers over 25% of its surface, Etosha is one of the world's greatest game parks. I continued my Namibian trip in June 2006 with a two day exploration of a small part of the pan.
